Tissot is known as one of the most innovative Swiss watchmakers. Since its launch in 1853, the Tissot company has been delivering fine built yet affordable watches to the world. The high-quality Tissot watches have been recognised by numerous awards and prizes in many industrial exhibitions. Let’s learn more about its history to understand the attractiveness of Tissot watches.

Tissot is a Swiss watch manufacturer headquartered in Le Locle in the canton of Neuchatel in the Swiss Jura Mountains. The company was founded by a fitter of gold cases, Charles-Félicien Tissot his son Charles-Emile Tissot who was a watchmaker on July 1st, 1853.

The early timepieces Tissot produced were mainly focused on pocket watches, pendant watches or complication watches. The company had delivered revolutionary innovations and hit the market since the era of the late 1800s. In 1853, Tissot produced the first mass-produced pocket watch and the first pocket watch that featured two time zones. Later in 1929, it introduced the first anti-magnetic watch that inspired other major watch brands.

Tissot had also hit the Russian markets as well. In 1858, the voyage of the son Charles-Emile Tissot to Russia had helped the company to win the heart of the Russian Empire by their Savon Nette pocket watches. Since then these Tissot watches were mainly distributed to the United States and Russian markets.

A few decades later in 1915, suggested by his son Paul, Charles Emile set its foot into the manufacturing of wristwatches. Since the 1920s Tissot has successfully been firmly footing itself in the wristwatch market. The company found itself a position in the market with its fashionable and stylish wristwatches that used some unusual materials such as granite and wood. Tissot had soon gained an exceptional popularity over the world.

Since 1983, Tissot has become a member of The Swatch Group Ltd, the largest watch producer and distributor in the world. Until today, Tissot remains located in Le Locle, Switzerland, preserving its Swissness in both craftsmanship and spirit. It distinguished the brand’s identity compared to its other counterparts.

Throughout the watchmaking journey of the brand, Tissot has partnered with multiple major sports events as an official timekeeper, including MotoGP, Ice Hockey, Cycling, the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) the Fencing World Championships. It revealed the reliability and accuracy of Tissot watches when actually timing each of these sports.

In 1999, Tissot surprised the industry and released the Tissot T Touch, the world’s first touchscreen watch. The Tissot smartwatch contained the latest technology at the time, including the touch-sensitive sapphire crystals with outstanding digital functions such as compasses, barometer, altimeter, and thermometer.

Considering its close relationships with various sports events, the T Touch watch features customized timers for specific sports such as racing splits, regattas, diving, and a tide indicator for sailing or surfing. With these Tissot sport-specific customizations, the Tissot T Touch is a good companion for any sports lover no matter which sports they like.

Over these years, the company has released a handful of updated versions for Tissot T-Touch series. The popular models in the collection include The Tissot T Touch Expert Solar and T Touch Lady Solar featuring 25 functions.

Tissot offers a wide range of high-quality watches in different styles, from classic dress watches like Tissot Le Locle Automatic, to complicated watches like the Tissot T-Complication Squelette. The company owns a large piece of the market and its future looks bright for the coming century.

Tissot watches are available in numerous variations, including models with different movements and complications for example automatic movement and quartz movement, as well as solar powered models.
