The Rolex OP watch offers various size and dial options to suit lots of different tastes. Here we are introducing some of the most popular models you can choose from.
History of Oyster Perpetual
The Oyster Perpetual is defined by two features that Rolex invented: its aesthetics and its self-winding Perpetual movement.
The Oyster part is based on the 1926 Rolex Oyster, the very first waterproof watch in the world. Wilsdorf named it because this case design was as hard to open as the shell of Oyster and, similarly, needed special tools to do so. The Oyster Perpetual collection is directly descended from the 1926 original Oyster.
The “Perpetual” of the name refers to the self-winding movement Rolex invented in 1931. The movement was powered by the perpetual motion of the wrist. It provides the watch with a constant source of energy without manual winding. As Rolex’s collection expanded, the name has become a special term to represent Rolex’s technology and attached to other collections’ names as a prefix.
Until very recently in 2015, the Oyster Perpetual had long been considered as Rolex watches for women due to its smaller sizings – 26/31/34/36mm. Then, in 2015, the Rolex Oyster Perpetual 39 mm was announced.
