Chopard originated in 1860 in Sonvilier, when Louis-Ulysse Chopard ventured into the watch making niche. Born to a farmer, he learnt the intricacies involved in watch making while being a dealer of watches. In Sonvilier, the farmers used to deal with watch frames and movement along with their produce. Soon, Chopard realized his real passion lay in designing functional and reliable watches. With time, L.U.C. manufacturing company lay its foundation in Sonvilier, before moving out.
The dominance of this Swiss watch company lies in producing artistic, functional and reliable wristwatches. They started out with designer Chopard ladies’ wristwatches and pocket watches. With time, they began producing chronometers, watches for men as well as other watch varieties. One distinguishing factor of these watches is that none of them are mass produced. Each piece is designed carefully, and the makers release limited editions only.
The watches involve the highest standard of watchmaking practices, and are known for being aspirational. Every model is different and boasts unique workmanship. For instance, the Chopard Happy Sport watch model redefined the watchmaking industry by adding moving diamonds between the crystal sapphire glasses present along the face of the watch. Similarly, the Alpine Eagle timepiece has been inspired by the strength showcased by eagles and comes with a majestic appearance and strong design. Some of the best pieces in their collection include the 1963 Chronograph, Mille Miglia and Quattro.
