All About Omega De Ville Watches

The Omega De Ville series came to the market in 1967, but its underlying technology was being used by Omega from the 1960s. The De Ville collection is a fine example of Omega's craftsmanship and innovation. It was originally a part of the Omega Seamaster collection but became an independent line in 1967.

The independent line of Omega Speedmaster became known for its refined looks and streamlined layout. In the 1970s, the Omega De Ville collection won numerous awards and solidified its position as the leading manufacturer of watches. In 1994, Omega De Ville launched the Omega De Ville Prestige line. It was a breakthrough moment in the world of dress watches, for both men and women. It continues as one of the most successful lines. In 1999, they started using the Co-axial caliber which is a result of Omega's dedication towards making better watches. Since then, the Omega De Ville Ladymatic, Omega De Ville Tresor, and Omega De Ville hour vision have carried forward the legacy of Omega Speedmaster.

Omega is, without any doubt, one of the leading watch manufacturers in the world. Their success lies in their immaculate craftsmanship, attention to detail, and a fine touch of elegance in all their products. Omega watches have crossed various milestones - they have been to the moon, to the depths of the Mariana Trench, and have featured in numerous successful movies. They manufacture a diversified range of watches for different purposes, settings, and occasions. Omega's craftsmanship and precision are visible in every new series that they launch. Each series is tied to a theme or idea and the products live up to that expectation. The Omega De Ville collection is a modern counterpart of traditional sports watches. The model sheds off certain elements of sports watches and replaces those with a more refined touch.

Omega De Ville stands out as a sports watch because of its unmatched combination of aesthetics and functionality. They still represent the legendary precision of Swiss watchmaking in all their products. It took very little time for Omega De Ville to become one of the favorites of watch enthusiasts and horologists. Omega has maintained and improved its products for decades now and has rolled out newer and more developed models.

The history of Omega as a watch manufacturer goes back to 1848 Switzerland. Louis Brandt was the mind behind the brand, and soon his sons joined him. Louis Brandt & Frere-Omega Watch Co became Omega with the release of their first groundbreaking success - the Omega caliber. This watch made timekeeping and repairing extremely easy, something that could not be thought of earlier. Maintaining their tradition of research, development, and innovation, Omega came up with the Omega De Ville series in 1967. While they launched the De Ville collection as a separate family in 1967, the technology and watchmaking skills were already put to test in their Seamaster De Ville collection in 1960.

Ever since the launch of the De Ville collection, it has been a favorite with customers. Many of them are drawn to it because of its sleek and sophisticated design. Others rely on Omega for its expert craftsmanship and ability to withstand heavy usage. Even more, people find Omega's ability to fuse classic designs with subtle modern touches to be unique. It can hardly be replicated by others and even when done, the result is never quite the same. These are just a few of the many reasons behind Omega's loyal and happy customers.

Over the years, Omega has kept developing on their De Ville collection. Starting from 1967, every new model adds something new to the collection. Omega De Ville has grown on its underlying theme. The watches deliver great functionality for all conditions while retaining their drive for visual appeal. Omega has also recreated some of its vintage models with a more modern aesthetic and improved mechanics. In all their products, they have maintained their approach towards making timekeeping more beautiful and efficient.

The 1960s: The beginning

1960 is the year when Omega first introduced the De Ville collection. It was not yet a separate line, but the seeds were sown. In 1960, the De Ville collection was a part of dress watches under the Seamaster collection. The Seamaster was a revolution in itself, introducing the O ring gasket which could provide unprecedented water resistance. It was an instant hit among divers and swimmers. The inscription 'Seamaster De Ville' first appeared in 1963. Taking into account the immense popularity of this new line, Omega decided to separate the De Ville line from the Seamaster line. These events culminated in 1967, with the launch of the independent Omega De Ville line.

The 1967 Omega De Ville watches were prominent for their streamlined design and more refined aesthetics compared to the previous Seamaster collection.

The 1970s: The dominance of De Ville

In 1970, Omega De Ville solidified its position in the world of watches. Numerous awards and recognitions were given to the Omega De Ville collection in the 1970s. The line won the "Triumph of European Excellence" award given by the Committee of European Excellence. This was the most prestigious award at that time. Winning it secured De Ville's position as a critical and commercial success. The Committee praised De Ville's originality, creativity, and functionality in design.

1994: Omega De Ville Prestige

The Omega De Ville prestige continues to be one of the most successful lines of Omega. The Omega De Ville Prestige Ladies collection was a breakthrough for women's watches. You have the option of choosing between 32.7mm and 36.8mm models, and four color options. Reference 424.10.37.20.02.001 is another popular option in the Prestige line, which is a 36.8 mm Omega watch with multiple variants. The Prestige line has five variants, meant for different people and different occasions.

1999: Birth of Coaxial caliber

George Daniels was the founder of the Co-axial movement in 1974. This co-axial caliber was first incorporated in a watch by Omega in 1999. It opened up a new avenue of innovation in watchmaking. No other watchmaker had made any prior practical use of co-axial movement in watches.

Then in 2007, Omega brought the automatic caliber 8500 to the market. The signature De Ville Hour watch was born through the fusion of the co-axial movement and automatic caliber 8500. The De Ville Hour remains one of the most significant and successful watches of Omega.

Omega De Ville Ladymatic

The ladymatic is one of the best Omega De Ville ladies watch. Originally launched in the 1950s, it has since been recreated. The modern Ladymatic line has a Co-Axial caliber 8520 and 8521. The elite Si14 silicon balance spring provides superior resistance from shocks.

Omega De Ville Hour Vision

The Omega De Ville Hour vision has passed 8 of the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS). All watches in the Hour Vision collection are certified as a 'Master Chronometer'. The watch cases are 41mm in diameter and come in premium stainless steel or 18k Sedna™ gold. The Hour Vision Annual Calendar is a testament to Omega's quality and craftsmanship, especially the De Ville collection.

Omega De Ville Tresor

It was originally a vintage model that underwent a revamp in 2014. Now Omega De Ville Tresor watches come in 40mm gold cases and use the Omega in-house Master Co-Axial caliber. In 2019, Omega launched the stainless steel variant which incorporates the Co-Axial Master Chronometer movement.

Conclusion

The Omega De Ville collection is among the all-time favorites of watch connoisseurs. The reasons behind that are clear. Omega's class and precision are unmatchable, and their watches have stood the test of time. From its inception in 1963 to now, Omega has constantly improved and maintained the performance of its watches. It is no surprise that Omega continues to be successful in every new venture.
