All About Frédérique Constant Watches
The Frederique Constant watch company was founded in 1988 by Aletta Bax and her husband, Peter Stas. The company takes its name from Frederick the Great, King of Prussia, and Constantijn Huygens, a Dutch physicist and astronomer.
In 1992, the company launched its first watch collection. It consisted of three models: a quartz clock, a quartz ladies' watch, and a manual-winding watch. These watches were characterized by their classical design and high-quality mechanical movements. In 1995, Frederique Constant partnered with the Van Cleef & Arpels jewelry house to develop timepieces jointly. By 2000, the company had introduced another fifteen models to its range.
The first watches manufactured by Frederique Constant were quartz-powered models, but the company switched to mechanical movements in 1994. In 1998, Frederique Constant entered into a joint venture with Japan's Miyota Corporation (now known as CITIZEN), which supplied its mechanical movements.
In 1999, Frédérique Constant introduced the Heart Beat manufacture movement. This quartz movement with a chronograph function is unique because it has an opening at 6 o'clock that reveals the balance wheel and escapement. The Heart Beat manufacture movement has been successful and is still being used in many watches today.
In 2000, Frederique Constant started as a small independent watchmaker in Geneva, Switzerland, to make beautiful and affordable watches. By combining traditional craftsmanship with innovative design and technology, they have created some of the most stunning timepieces in the world - all while keeping prices low.
In 2005, the manufacturer extended its collection with a men's line launch. The launch was celebrated with an exceptional watch equipped with a tourbillon movement and housed in a 42 mm case made of white gold.
In 2007, Frederique Constant introduced several new models to its collections, including a Ladies Automatic Delight featuring an openwork dial and Roman numerals. A slimline Men's Automatic featuring an off-center disc displaying seconds FC-308 Tourbillon with manual wind movement.
The company started slowly but picked up in 2009 when they released the Classics Vintage collection. The line was an instant success and helped put the brand on the map. In 2011, they expanded their line with the launch of Automatic Worldtimer watches, which could show different time zones on different parts of the dial.
In 2015, they released a new collection called Runabout, which featured nautical-inspired designs. The watches were made to be both stylish and functional and quickly became a fan favorite.
