Rolex Watches

Unlike other members in the family which were designed for a definite tactical purpose, such as the ones for divers or for engineers, Rolex Cellini is all about elegance and sophistication as the luxury highlight to your dressy and stylish outfit.

Originating from the 1960s, Rolex Cellini received a complete rearrangement and released a series of new models at Baselworld in 2014. The newer versions were considered as the most successful Rolex dress watches. Also known as the classical Rolex watch, the Cellini collection houses the most timeless pieces with the essence of eternal elegance crafted with the best of Rolex expertise and technologies.

With clear design direction and well-defined aesthetics, the Rolex Cellini lineup has been offering various Rolex dress watches in all shapes and sizes for a few decades. The Rolex Cellini Moonphase released in 2017 has gained significant attention from watch enthusiasts all across the world.

The Rolex Cellini collection is very much different from the Rolex’s signature sports collections. Although the Cellini has never been the bestselling model in the Rolex lineup, it has gained the high admiration of a large group of supporters who appreciate the subtle magnificence of a watch with its refined and elegant lines.

The name of the model ‘Cellini' was taken after the genius Italian sculptor and goldsmith Benvenuto Cellini. It was meant as a tribute for the appreciation of the true artistry and the celebration of this refined timepiece.

The birth of the Rolex Cellini collection was the idea of the Director of Marketing for Rolex, Rene-Paul Jeanneret. He had helped steer Rolex’s business direction towards making professional watches in the 1950s, which was a significant factor for its success.

The Rolex Cellini was introduced in the 1960s with a very stylish, yet timeless look. Aiming to provide an elegant alternative to the usual Rolex sports watches, the design of Cellini focused strictly on aesthetics. It is particularly enchanting, while well built with the splendid Rolex standard. A number of models were released at the time such as: the Rolex Cellini Danaos, the Rolex Cellini Cestello, and Cellini Quartz. Although they are no longer manufactured, these watches are considered memorable pieces in the history of the legendary Rolex brand.

By the time of the 1970s, the Cellini collection had already housed a diverse assortment of elegant dressy timepieces. When most of the Rolex tool watches were equipped with their waterproof Oyster case, the Cellini watches often skipped the screw-down crown and caseback for their own purpose of aesthetics. Serving as a pure dress watch, a Cellini watch did not need a high-degree of water-resistance like other Rolex sports watches did.

Rolex Midas

The collection expanded gradually since its launch in the 1960s and incorporated the bold, angular designs that were popular in the era. During this time, Rolex invited renowned designers to design some of their new timepieces. Many distinctive models were born during that era and up to date the Rolex Cellini price is still holding up in the secondary market.

In 1963, Rolex released the famous King Midas watch for the Cellini collection, which was a bold, angular, and thoroughly modern gold Rolex. The watch was later best known for being owned by Elvis Presley. Although it is not officially confirmed, many collectors believe that the legendary Gérald Genta was the designer who created the King Midas because of the similar key design elements that are found in the majority of his other works.

Rolex Cestello

This pleasant Rolex vintage timepiece features a classic round dial with sapphire crystal and a leather strap. It was considered as the ideal watch for those looking for elegance at the time.

Rolex Danaos

The Rolex Cellini Danaos released in the 1970s is the perfect choice for the luxury watch admirer who looks for a cutting-edge and cushion shaped design.

Modern Rolex Cellini

In 2005 the vintage Cellini Prince watch of 1928 was revived with a faithful re-edition model. The original model was already known for its chronometric precision and avant-garde rectangular shape. The modern Rolex Cellini Prince features the signature large rectangular case and houses a manual wound mechanical movement, is available in four separate versions all with transparent case backs. This Rolex dress watch remained in production until 2015.

With a handful of notable models, the Cellini watch was reformed as an official Rolex Cellini Collection at Baselworld 2014. The updated models include the Rolex Cellini Time, Cellini Date, and Cellini Dual Time. These contemporary watches are all round watches, which was different from its previous models. They are meant for Rolex lovers who would need an extravagant dress watch for official occasions.

Seeing the success of the 2014 Cellini models, in 2017 Rolex launched the Cellini Moonphase watch. It is the first watch from the collection to feature the complication.

Being overshadowed by the other famous collections, Cellini Rolex has been less known on the market. Let’s take a deeper look at some popular models of the modern Rolex Cellini.

Rolex Cellini Time

Amongst the new release, the Rolex Cellini Time was the simplest and the most traditional model. The 39mm watch stands out with its clean dial and facet-cut baton-style markers. It reveals a touch of vintage by its narrow bezel with the fluted ring and polished case back.

The Rolex Cellini Time is powered by the admirable Rolex in-house automatic movement. It operates at 4Hz (28,000bph), and offers a power reserve of up to 48 hours. Like other newer Rolex models, the Cellini Time is certified both “Superlative Chronometer” standards and the COSC Chronometer certification. It guaranteed the watch’s high performance of accuracy -2/+2 seconds per day.

The Cellini Time is available in various options of styles, including white or black lacquered dial, and 18k white gold or Everose gold versions. These watches are paired with an alligator leather strap which is available in two colors choices, black or brown strap.

Rolex Cellini Moonphase

At Baselworld 2017, Rolex launched its new Cellini model equipped with a moonphase complication. The Rolex and the Cellini Moonphase is considered as a piece of horological art that not only has a moonphase complication, but also highly performa to be astronomically accurate for 122 years.

If you just happen to be looking for a dress watch that will match up with all your occasion, then the Rolex Cellini Time is an ideal match for you.
